The 2001 jam, “Maybe I Deserve,” has to go down as one of the most honest male confessionals ever recorded. The man who wrote – and performs – such a personal song is one Durrell Babbs, who is much better known by the moniker Tank. In the song – from Tank’s debut LP, “Force of Nature” – a saddened lover regrets that his cheating ways have caused his partner to do the very same thing.

For nearly a decade, Tank had become well known for his personal music, whether it’s songs he’s written for his own albums or songs he’s done for folks like Omarion and Ruben Studdard. Now on the verge of the release of his fourth CD, “Now Or Never,” he’s the latest TJMS In-Studio Jam.

Here’s more on Tank.

BORN: Durrell Babbs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

BIG BREAK:  Tank played several sports at Crossland High School in his native Wisconsin, but decided that music was his true passion. He got his first big break singing backup on tour with Ginuwine.

RESUME: Although most fans view Tank primarily as an artist, he’s actually been more successful behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer. He worked on both of Jamie Foxx’s recent CDs and with hitmakers like Omarion, Jennifer Hudson, Monica and Ruben Studdard. He worked with the Underdogs until forming his own production company, Song Dynasty.

BACK STORY: Tank had a small role in the smash film “Dreamgirls,” for which he contributed to the soundtrack, and stepped in front of the camera’s again, co-starring with LeToya Luckett in “The Preacher’s Kid.” He’s been studying acting, but says music will continue to be his priority.

FUN FACT: Tank wrote his biggest hit to date, “Maybe I Deserve,” in the basement of his mother’s house in Maryland on an MPC and two keyboards.

LATEST WORK: His latest CD, “Now or Never,” is out Dec. 14th.
