*Rap mogul Russell Simmons is hinting around that he’d like to date John Mellencamp’s estranged wife Elaine Irwin – but only after her divorce from the rocker is final.
Irwin and Mellencamp separated in December following 18 years of marriage, and the musician has reportedly moved on to a relationship with actress Meg Ryan.
Irwin, 41, actually dated Simmons in the past, but the hip-hop philanthropist insists they are just friends…for now.
“Elaine and I are good friends. We actually went on a date 20 years ago, before she met John and I was at Def Jam,” he told the New York Post’s Page Six. ‘She is a beautiful woman, a great mother, and we are friends. But at the moment she is still married, so we’re friends.
“I would like to spend more time with her, but I have recently been on tour promoting my book.”
