Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown could have a new deal to coach one of basketball’s most storied franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to a story in the L.A. Times, the Lakers have put together a deal to hire Brown because team executives are so impressed with his defensive-minded coaching style.

The deal is reportedly worth between $4 million and $4.5 million per season, for three years.

According to the story, Brown could be announced as the team’s new coach within the next 24-48 hours.

Brown was with the Cavs for five seasons until he was fired in 2010, leaving with a 272-138 record. The year he was fired, the Cavs had the best regular season record in the NBA, but he was fired after the team failed to make the NBA Finals and the team’s focus then became attempting to re-sign LeBron James.

Brown would take over for Phil Jackson, the most successful coach in NBA history.
