Louise Wilson, a professor at British fashion school Central St. Martins, has confirmed reports that Kanye West is working on a womenswear label with British designer Louise Goldin. Wilson herself isn’t involved, contrary to previous rumors, although she admits to chatting with him before about fashion stuff. Reports British Vogue:

“I have known Kanye for about two years,” Wilson, the course director of the MA Fashion at CSM, told us. “He is very knowledgeable about fashion and interested – he is also interesting, he has an individual point of view. He has visited the college twice – most recently about employing interns to work on a variety of projects. He has supported the fashion school (with its fundraising regarding its move to Kings Cross) with a donation. I have not however been working closely with him on a collection but I certainly wish him well.”

Goldin is a former student of Wilson’s, and supposedly a very promising one. Wilson went on to tell the Guardian that she thinks the Goldin-Kanye collaboration could actually be quite good.

I think we can expect a well-considered collection, you wouldn’t expect less from a pair of professionals and I warn against dismissing it in haste. There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don’t believe this will be the case – he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.

This is very nice of her to say and, for all we know, could be totally true. But let’s not forget the part about Kanye donating to her institution, which she undoubtedly hopes he will continue to do.
