Ashtabula native, two time National Champion, and former Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer has agreed to become the next coach of The Ohio State University according to ESPN.com.  Meyer had been rumored to be the next coach of the Buckeyes for a couple of weeks now, last week WKMG-TV in Orlando reported that Meyer would be introduced in coming days after agreeing to a seven-year, $40 million deal.

The Buckeyes have endured a tumultuous season that ended last Saturday with a loss to rival Michigan.  Former head coach Jim Tressel was ousted amidst the “tattoo” scandal that also led to the suspension of starters Devier Posey, Daniel “Boom” Heron, and the eventual exit of Quarterback Terrelle Pryor.  Interim head coach Luke Fickell has done a wonderful job of holding the program together in spite of all of the outside distractions, so much so that he may be asked to remain as part of Urban Meyer’s staff according to sources who spoke to ESPN.

Urban Meyer takes over a Buckeye squad that has talent already on the roster including Freshman Quarterback Braxton Miller who looks taylor-made to run Meyer’s spread offense.  Buckeye fans are hoping to get back to national prominence sooner rather than later and with a big name coach like Urban Meyer they just may get their wish.
