CLEVELAND – The man who became most commonly known as “Joe the Plumber” filed in Cleveland Wednesday to run in Ohio’s 9 th Congressional District.

Joe’s real name is Samuel Joe Wurzelbacher and he was born in Toledo. The 37-year-old made national news in 2008 after asking then-presidential candidate, Barack Obama, a question about his tax plan during a visit to Ohio.

Wurzelbacher, a Republican, filed his paperwork to run Wednesday afternoon at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

“I have really enjoyed going door to door and meeting with voters,” said Wurzelbacher in a news release from his campaign. “The response has been great from both Democrats and Republicans alike.”

He is expected to face either Marcy Kaptur, the longest serving Democratic woman in the U.S. House, or Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Their districts have recently been combined.
