CLEVELAND – Move-in day has arrived for the first aquatic residents of the new Greater Cleveland Aquarium.

An 18-wheeler is expected to pull into the facility Wednesday with saltwater marine life trucked from a holding facility in Key West, Fla.

Tanks on board the truck hold mostly rays, crabs, starfish and lobsters for the aquarium’s interactive area.

Three other truckloads of fish are making the same trip north.

The aquarium was filling the first of its 40 tanks on Tuesday with Cleveland tap water turned into saltwater through the use of a chemical solution.

The new attraction in the city’s Flats entertainment district is scheduled to open Jan. 21. It will be home to more than 5,000 freshwater and saltwater fish.
