CLEVELAND – Law enforcement around Ohio is stepping up patrols this weekend, targeting drunk and impaired drivers.

Last year, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested 243 people over the New Year’s weekend, up from 152 the year before.

Police are warning partiers to stay the night where they are and remind them if they want to go home, use a designated driver or call a cab.

The Highway Patrol’s Springfield post in western Ohio say habitual repeat offenders are a big problem. The post arrested two drivers within the last two weeks who had a total 16 convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
