December 10, 2008, that is the day I first reported news that Beyonce Giselle Knowles had been offered the starring role in the latest incarnation of the 1937 film “A Star is Born.”

Fast forward nearly four years and though Beyonce is confirmed as the lead actress and Clint Eastwood, the film’s director, absolutely no one has been cast as the movie’s leading man.

Sure, lots of name have been thrown around- Will Smith, Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr, and Justin Timberlake just to name a few. But none have accepted the part and thus, the film remains in limbo.

Or does it?

The latest round of Hollywood rumors have actor Tom Cruise being courted for leading male status.

Word has it Eastwood saw dailies of Cruise in his upcoming film “Rock of Ages” (Tom plays an Axel Rose type character) and personally asked the actor to take on the role.

However, a quick glimpse of Cruise’s IMDB page shows a man up to his ankles in movie roles, including one that is listed as being in pre-production.

Still, with Knowles on active mommy duty and clearly in need of a bit of time to get back into physical shape, the wait for Cruise may not seem so far fetched.

On a personal note, Hollywood clearly feels that to make this film work they need a white male, and this to me is what is really holding up production. I say hire Terrence Howard already and let’s get this how on the road.
