Whitney Houston’s family is “saddened” by news that drugs played a factor in the singer’s accidental drowning.

“We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure,” Whitney’s sister-in-law Patricia Houston told the Associated Press.

A report from the Los Angeles County’s coroner’s office, released yesterday, indicated that several drugs were found in the icon’s system; however, they believe cocaine is the only one that contributed to her death.

Heart disease was also mentioned as a factor, and although Whitney reportedly used cocaine shortly before her death, it was a combination of things that ultimately ended her life.

“According to our tests, the level of cocaine was not necessarily a lethal level of cocaine, but her death was complicated by chronic cocaine use and heart disease,” coroner Craig Harvey told People magazine.

The death has been officially categorized as an accidental drowning. It’s unclear whether Whitney would have been able to rebound from the heart complications had she not been bathing at the time.

“There was water found in her lungs that indicated to us that she was alive when she was submerged underwater,” said Craig.

Investigators are still trying to establish exactly what happened, while rumors are circulating suggesting that someone removed cocaine from the hotel room where Whitney was found dead.

There’s been no evidence to substantiate those claims at this time.

The Houston family reportedly has closure now.
