COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) –

A Brunswick teen involved in a crash that killed three of his classmates in Columbia Township has died.

According to family, Kevin Fox passed away.

18-year-old Fox, 18-year-old Jeffrey Chaya, 17-year-old Blake Bartchak and 17-year-old Lexi Poerner were killed in the Sunday morning accident.

17-year-old Julia Romito was transported to Southwest General Hospital where she is listed in good condition. She is the sole survivor of the crash.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the group of teens was driving along Boston Road just east of Boone in Columbia Township when the driver, Jeffrey Chaya, crossed railroad tracks at a high rate of speed and lost control of his airborne Chevrolet Cavalier upon landing.

The vehicle flipped and struck several objects before coming to a stop.

The teens were all from Brunswick, and were students at Brunswick High School. Kevin Fox and Jeffrey Chaya were seniors, and were set to graduate Sunday, June 3, during ceremonies at University of Akron. 19 Action News is told that during the ceremony, the names of Kevin Fox and Jeffrey Chaya were read along with the other graduating seniors.

The crash remains under investigation. It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. Unsafe speed did play a role in the crash.
