PARMA, OH (WOIO) –
President Obama kicked off a two-day “Betting on America” bus tour through Northern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania Thursday.
In the Cleveland area, President Obama spoke at James Day Park located at 11828 W. Pleasant Valley Road in Parma, Ohio.
Obama exited his tour bus with U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland at his side and began speaking at 8:13.
As he has in many speeches this year, POTUS talked of his vision and the American dream — his belief that if you work hard enough you should be able to “make a decent wage, so you can afford a home, you wont go bankrupt when you get sick. You can retire with some dignity and respect.”
President Obama mentioned Republican rival Mitt Romney by name, saying the former Massachusetts governor and “his allies in Congress, they’ve got a particular view” with regards to lowering taxes on the wealthy and deregulation.
“That’s their theory,” POTUS said. “It’s a coherent theory. You can see it on their web sites. They don’t make a secret about what they’re planning to do. The only problem is we tried it. We tried it for about 10 years right before I was elected president of the United States. And it didn’t work.”
Throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania, President Obama talked about his efforts over the last three years to get our economy back on track, doubling down on American workers by saving the auto industry, investing in manufacturing and bringing jobs back to America.
The President is also talking with voters in their communities about the choice in this election – whether we want to grow our economy from the middle out, not the top town. The President is rebuilding an economy meant to last – one that restores middle class security by investing in education, energy, innovation and infrastructure and reforms the tax code — steps which will create American jobs, responsibly pay down our debt and ensure everyone – from Wall Street to Main Street – plays by the same rules and pays their fair share.
After wrapping up his speech in Parma, the president headed by bus to Akron, where he will stay overnight. He is scheduled to campaign on day two of his bus tour Friday in the Youngstown and Pittsburgh areas.
