Claressa Shields, 17, clobbered her opponent–Marina Volnova, 29-15, last night in the 2012 London Olympics, becoming the first woman to win a gold medal in the boxing sport! Up until this year, the Olympics have not allowed women to compete for medals.
Shields, who started boxing at 11-years-old, giggled as she was presented with her medal.
She wasn’t the only person to make history yesterday. Usain Bolt became the first man to win back-to-back gold medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints!

His win was later overshadowed by controversy after he said this about legendary US runner Carl Lewis:
“I’m going to say something controversial right now, Carl Lewis – I have no respect for him.”
Lewis, the only other man to win two Olympic 100m gold medals, was among Bolt’s greatest sprinters of all time.
“The things he (Lewis) says about the track athletes, it’s really downgrading for another athlete to be saying something like that about other athletes. I think he is just looking for attention really because nobody really talks much about him,” Bolt said.
