Deep into the summer months, there are countless opportunities to wear the most fashionable shoes without socks as well as toes exposed. Given all that are feet are exposed to, here are tips to help maintain healthy feet during the summer months:

1. A brand-spanking new pair of sandals can bring a spanking new set of painful blisters on your feet. Sores and blisters can form from the chafing that happens when a shoe rubs up against the skin. Then that irritated skin can balloon out and fill with fluid to cushion and protect the deeper layers of skin underneath. To cut down on the amount of blisters from new shoes, make sure that the shoes are a perfect fit and do not rub up against your feel in an irritating way. Bend the shoes and walk in them before wearing them for that special event or occasion.

2. Wearing open-backed shoes can spread the fat pad of the heel and cause the skin on your heel to crack To treat and repair any deep cracks in your heel and you also see dried blood, treat the heel with an antibiotic oil or cream and cover with a band aid.

3. Flip flop season is upon is but experts warn that all flip flops are not created equal. Look for a pair with a thicker sole with arch support. Also, the more straps the shoe has, the better. Thicker and more straps on your shoe can reduce stress placed on the toes to grip the flip flop so it doesn’t fly off your foot.
