CLEVELAND – FirstEnergy crews have restored power to 5,300 Cleveland residents who lost electricity New Year’s Day morning.

A spokesman for the utility said a substation transformer blew which caused the outage. At 3:05 p.m., power was restored to half of those affected. By 4:15 p.m., all but 60 homes had power restored.

Crews were hoping to have power restored to all affected by 1:30 p.m., but the repairs are taking “longer than anticipated.”

Some of our Twitter followers have tweeted they’re “freezing.” It’s understandable having no power, which means no heat, with temperatures in the teens.

Power went out around 10 a.m.
