With gun and gang violence in Chicago reaching new heights, First Lady Michelle Obama has decided to return home to find answers.
According to the White House, Mrs. Obama is scheduled to lead a city-wide discussion on youth empowerment and combating violence in the Windy City at a luncheon on April 10th.
“First Lady Michelle Obama will return to her hometown to address local business and community leaders about providing more opportunities for young people to achieve their full potential,” the statement reads. Particpating leaders will include Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Allstate Corporation President Thomas J. Wilson and Loop Capital CEO James Reynolds, Jr.
Last month, the issue hit home for the FLOTUS when she decided to attend the funeral for 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was shot and killed by a gang member in a Chicago park.
Most recently, 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins was shot five times in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn. The attack happened while her father was changing her diaper in their minivan.
Hopefully, the Obamas and Chicago officials will be able to find an effective solution to keep senseless killing off city streets.
