Only hours after announcing that he’s gay, Jason Collins has become the face of Boston Pride.

According to TMZ, the NBA star is going to be the parade marshal.

A rep for parade tells TMZ, “Boston Pride is formally inviting Jason Collins to be a Marshal in the 2013 Boston Pride Parade … Boston Pride is proud that our annual celebration helped to inspire Jason Collins to make his groundbreaking decision to come out.”

Jason actually told Sports Illustrated that Boston Pride Parade was the reason he came out in the first place. He wanted to participate, but decided against it because he was afraid of the criticism that would come along with it.

In the meantime, while many are celebrating with Jason, others are saying it could be a problem.

LA Lakers player, Antawn Jamison – who by the way is not expected to return to the team – says the realistic position is that everyone is not going to accept him, though he’s personally happy that he’s out and can “be who he really is.”

“Of course, you’re going to have some closed-minded people, let’s be realistic,” he said. “That’s life.”
