I’m no Stevie Wonder, but I do know a little something about getting a new holiday started, and it’s not easy. But I’ll keep moving forward until Father’s Day Friday has a theme song and we get the day off. But for now, start by not questioning what daddy does or where he decided to go on the Friday before Father’s Day. Saturday and Sunday, he’s available to go to film festivals, daddy/daughter dances, brunches, car shows, rodeos, crawfish festivals, mud runs…all the things YOU think daddy would enjoy.
If you’re a dad, let me know how you spent Father’s Day Friday or how you fantasize about spending it, in case you missed it this time around. After all, I just invented it Thursday. But, I anticipate it being around for a very long time. In fact, I’m working on a parade for next year.
Riding on “The Best Dads” float will be Eddie Levert, Quincy Jones, Muhammad Ali, Rodney Peete and Brad Pitt, Sinbad and J. Anthony Brown. These aren’t perfect dads. No dad is. But they’re always getting props from their wives and kids and other people that know them…and that’s good enough for me!
On “The Best TV Dads” float will be Cliff Huxtable, James Evans, Carl Winslow and posthumously, Bernie Mac.
And finally on “The God’s Not Finished with Me Yet” float will be
Bobby Brown, Evander Holyfield, and all men with the last name Jackson. Just kidding! Don’t write me.
