CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting involving five security officers in Cleveland.

he shooting happened Sunday morning just before 2:30 a.m. on King Avenue.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Kingdom Warrior Protection security officers were working security at a private party being held at the Braxton Building on East 40 Street.

As the party was ending, the security officers were clearing the area of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. While dispersing the crowd, an unarmed security officer reportedly requested that Are’es Richard of Cleveland Heights to move his vehicle, but Richard did not comply.

The security officer reportedly knocked on the driver’s window and again requested that Richard move the vehicle. Richard opened his vehicle door, striking the security officer.  The security officer pushed the door closed and Richard again forcibly opened the door striking the security officer again. Richard exited his vehicle and grabbed the security officer by his vest carrier and began pulling the officer. The two became involved in a physical struggle and Richard was pushed back into his vehicle. Richard then placed the vehicle in drive, made a u-turn and then drove onto the sidewalk over the curb towards the security officer.

The security officer ran through the vacant corner lot with Richard driving at him. Upon seeing this, three other armed security officers discharged their weapons at Richard’s vehicle.

Richard then drove his vehicle back over the sidewalk and eastbound onto King Avenue and then southbound on East 40 Street.

He was later located unconscious at the Marathon Gas Station at E. 40th & St. Clair Avenue with a gunshot wound to the leg.

All five security officers were interviewed by Homicide Unit Detectives and are cooperating with the investigation. An Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor was on scene.

There are no arrests.  Upon completion the facts of the investigation will be presented to the Prosecutor to determine if the shooting was self-defense.
