*Unreleased footage from a 2008 HBO pilot starring Kanye West that never made it to series hit YouTube today.

Writer/producer Larry Charles (“Seinfeld,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) was involved in the project that was supposed to be in the vein of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with Ye acting in loosely scripted scenarios. In the clip that hit the web, Kanye – as himself – visits a terminally-ill boy from the Make a Wish program, who says West is his sixth favorite artist.

The footage surfaced online when the woman who plays the Make-A-Wish aide in the clip, Alison Quinn, uploaded the video to YouTube as part of her acting reel. Quinn’s character has no idea who big Kanye West, can’t pronounce his name and is in disbelief when he says he’s been featured on the cover of Time and Rolling Stone.

According to ComingSoon.net, Larry Charles said that the pilot, “was really good, but … I think it was too hard-core for HBO. Also, HBO’s management shifted. HBO doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also.”

As for Kanye’s comedic chops, Charles said, “He’s so much funnier than people realize. Even the whole being full of himself stuff is a joke to him and he likes to play that of being like, you know, Kanye. He’s kind of a brilliant guy actually.”
