CLEVELAND – The Browns preseason began tonight at First Energy Stadium with a game against the St. Louis Rams. Game time weather was mild and in the 70’s.

Scratches for the Browns: David Nelson, Montario Hardesty, Chris Owens, Leon McFadden, Jamoris Slaughter, Trent Richardson, Brock Bolen, T.J.Ward, Brad Smelley, yan Miller, Shaun Lauvao, Dave Kruger, Chris Faulk, Oniel Cousins.

I am trying to decide what I am more excited to see the Browns offense or the teams defense, both should be fun to watch with the new coordinators in place.

Rams won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. Dion Lewis was back to receive the first kickoff for the Browns.

1st Quarter

Browns 3 Rams 0

Browns take the opening kickoff 67 yards on 15 plays, highlighted by a 21 yard pass on second and nine from Brandon Weeden to Josh Gordon for a first down.

Six plays later, Weeden connected on a third and nine pass to Greg Little who out jumped two Rams defenders to collect a ball that deflected off the hands of tight end Jordan Cameron for 14 yards.

The Browns would have to settle for a 25 yard Brandon Bogotay field goal for a 3-0 lead.

The Browns ensuing kickoff, the first man down the field was first round draft pick Barkevious Mingo to make the stop at the Rams 14 yard line.

Browns defense would stop a Rams drive in Browns Territory when Phil Taylor would force a fumble of Rams running back Isaiah Pead, recovered by Buster Skrine at the Browns 26 yard line.

End of 1st Quarter

Browns 3 Rams 0

2nd Quarter

The Browns offense would score the first touchdown of the preseason when Brandon Weeden connects with Dion Lewis on a two yard touchdown pass to complete a 9 play 74 yard drive.

Weeden would finish the night 10 of 13 for 112 yards and a touchdown for a QB rating of 108.

Browns defense would force a three and out as both first units for the Browns have looked solid tonight. on the ensuing play Travis Benjamin took the punt down the left sidelines 91 yards for a touchdown.

Browns 17 Rams 0

The Rams would finally get on the board with 10:59 left in the second quarter on a three yard touchdown pass from Sam Bradford to Chris Givens.

The Browns second unit led by Jason Campbell would get the football with 10:54 to play in the first half. First play was a false start penalty, the second Browns penalty of the game.

Campbell’s first drive as a Cleveland Brown was smooth using the running of Brandon Jackson and Chris Ogbonnaya and mixing in short passes to lead the orange helmets on a 12 play 61 yard drive the resulted in a 41 yard field goal from Shayne Graham.

The Browns second team defense causes a three and out for the Rams. Browns get the ball back with 3:19 remaining in the first half.

The Rams sacked Jason Campbell on a third and five play with 1:52 left in the first half to force the first punt of the game by the Browns.

Rams attempt a 54 yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein to end the half.

Browns 20 Rams 10

3rd Quarter

Browns get the ball on downs after stopping the Rams on their first posession. Brian Hoyer comes in at quarterback for Browns first posession of the second half.

Browns go three and out, Hoyer has two incomplete passes on the drive including an over throw of an open Kellen Davis on second and nine that would have been good for a first down.

The Rams would score the first points of the third quarter on a 55 yard fieldgoal by Greg Zuerlein set up by a pass interference penalty on Trevin Wade.

Tonight’s attendence announced at 56,943. Brian Hoyer had the Browns on the move at the end of the quarter thanks to four straight completions to move the team from the Browns 37 into Rams territory.

The drive would stall with eight seconds left in the third quarter and Brandon Bogotay missing wide left on a 54 yard field goal.

4th Quarter

Rams turn the ball over on fourth and five after the Browns stop quarterback Austin Davis on a keeper.

Browns get an interception. St. Ed’s grad Justin Staples picks off Rams Quarterback Kellen Clemens to the Rams 33.

Browns Quaterback Brian Hoyer a 26 yard touchown pass to Cordell Roberson for 26 yards,

Browns 27  Rams 19

53 yard touchdown pass from the Rams Kellen Radway. Rams miss the conversion.  27-19
