One thing you have to admit about Lil Mo, she keeps it real. That’s probably why she is a fan favorite on the reality show, R&B Divas: L.A.

In an interview with Sister2Sister magazine, the R&B Diva did not hold back. She tells how she prepared before going on the reality show; how she trusted the process, because, as she says, she was not in it for the trick of “the wizard.”

She also speaks about her relationship with the women – Kelly Price in particular; relating her to that “one auntie who just curse everybody out and when you go to their funeral, they’re just like, ‘That’s just how she is. That’s just how she is.’ Nobody ever saw that side because we’re so used to the singing. That’s why when you show your personal life…that all comes from the people around you.”

Mo also says she’d love to do a reality spin-off, and let’s us in on who, from the cast,  she is still speaking to.

Tracy: How is life after “R&B Divas: LA” season 1?

Lil Mo: Great. Everything is going great. This is what I needed to put me back where I want to be and where I intend to go as far as my career.

Tracy: Are you working on new music?

Lil Mo: Yes. In addition to my two singles that I put out in conjunction with the show—the theme song “I’m a Diva” that I wrote; I made it a whole song and “Ls Up” which I performed during the Divalogues; I made that whole song available on iTunes and online everywhere.

Tracy: A lot of reality stars say they learn about themselves after watching their lives on TV. Is that true for you and if so, what did you learn about Lil Mo?

Lil Mo: I know myself. I’ve done radio and I knew, matter of fact I studied, before I even stepped into that arena. You can’t just pop up on TV and think the real you is not going to come out at some point, but because I’ve been pretty candid and transparent my whole career, pretty much I think a lot of people got to see the personality—they got to see the visual side of my personality. People read my tweets. They’ve heard me on radio; they’ve heard interviews. They’ve read my story. They pretty much have been attracted to me by that. They actually got to see eight weeks of it, plus two weeks of the reunion and then the whole Divalogues. When I did the whole Cynthia vs. Lil Mo segment, people were like, ‘Yo, that’s some real stuff.’ I think it actually captivated people to see just how real I kept it. None of the things I did were real, fake, coerced or the trick of “the wizard.” I didn’t go on reality TV to be tricked. I trusted the process and I made it work in my favor. That’s what bosses do.

Tracy: Speaking of “the wizard,” do you think the producers, TV execs, editors or whoever gave Kelly Price a bad deal?

Lil Mo: I don’t know what she got. All I can is what she gave is what she got back, and that’s real. I can assure you; I told her numerous times. I’ve taken up for her even on set. I gave up. There are people who are set in their ways. You know how you have that one auntie who just curse everybody out and when you go to their funeral, they’re just like, “That’s just how she is.” That’s just how she is. Nobody ever saw that side because we’re so used to the singing. That’s why when you show your personal life…that all comes from the people around you. If you just have one person around you and they allow you to be, basically, you and they don’t ever pull you to the side and say, “You can’t do that, shorty.”

Tracy: How are things with the ladies now?

Lil Mo: The one who I keep in touch with the most is Michel’le. Once you’re around people so long, you just miss them. I haven’t spoken to Chante [Moore] in a while. I know she’s on the road. I haven’t seen Claudette [Ortiz] since we shot the behind-the-scenes stuff for the “Divalogues” that had aired. For the most part, I’m working. We shouldn’t have that much conversation; we all should be working and just wishing each other well. As far as the other two, I don’t even follow them on Twitter: Kelly and Dawn [Robinson].

Tracy: Is there going to be a season 2?

Lil Mo: Our ratings were so high. They would be foolish not to, but that’s not up to me.
