Darrika Driver (pictured) was arrested and charged with child cruelty and harboring a sex offender for allowing her convicted child molester boyfriend, Natavious Mays (pictured), to move back in with her and her two young daughters he sexually abused upon his release from prison, according to WSB-TV.
Police investigators say that Mays had molested Driver’s daughters– ages 12 and 14–and served time for his crime. After the 22-year-old Mays was released from prison, he moved back in with Driver and allegedly molested the older child again. Authorities claim that he even recorded the act on his cellphone.
Mays, who was on probation, was not on the premises when law enforcement paid Driver a visit at her home to inquire about his whereabouts. The 31-year-old woman allegedly lied to investigators, telling them that she did not know where Mays resided. After probing into Driver’s story further, police went to pay the mom of two a visit again and wound up busting down her door when no one answered. The couple had apparently fled from the apartment but police were able to track them down days later.
At Driver’s arraignment, Clayton County, Ga., Magistrate Court Judge Beatrice Scott had a few choice words for the mom. “You intentionally lied to law enforcement officers about where the sex offender lived, knowing he was not to reside with your children,” he said.
When WSB-TV spoke to a few of Driver’s neighbors, they were shocked that she would allow Mays to move back in with her and her daughters. Jermaine Clark told the news outlet, “They don’t deserve to be parents. I wouldn’t give them (any) kids to tell you the truth.”
Mays, who will be arraigned on Wednesday, faces aggravated child molestation, production of child pornography and failure to register as a sex offender charges.
