One of America’s most celebrated poets, authors, and activists, Maya Angelou, passed away in a Winston-Salem, North Carolina hospital while recovering from a mystery sickness.

Having received more than 30 honorary degrees from universities around the country, Maya was supposed to be honored Friday in Houston where she was supposed to receive the Beacon of Life Award.


Angelou was one of the most inspiring poets of our time — most famously saying “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

True words, we will never forget how you made us feel.
