TruTV has set Oct. 27 for the premiere of “Fake Off,” its new competition series featuring TLC’s Chilli as a judge…and a subject that most of us, including Chilli herself, didn’t even know existed.

Ten teams from around the country will compete in something called “Faking,” where the groups recreate iconic moments in pop culture through extravagant, over-the-top multi-media performances that combine theater, acrobatics, black light and illusion.

“At first, I was like, ‘Well what does that mean?’” Chilli told us in an exclusive interview about the series. Like most everyone, she had never heard of this type of performance faking. “But when they broke it down, you’re taking iconic moments, iconic movies, and putting a twist on it, your own twist, and making it seem so real. That’s the fake.”

Chilli says once she understood the concept, she jumped at the chance to join fellow judges Harry Shum Jr. (“Glee”) and renowned visual and concept designer Michael Curry (Broadway’s The Lion King and Cirque du Soleil’s Love) to be a part of something that has never been on television before.
