Some reality shows have launched acting careers, but the ladies of “Hollywood Divas” already have impressive credits to their names, so could the show hurt them more than it helps?

Golden Brooks doesn’t think so. The former “Girlfriends” star said the TV One series gives her and her co-stars a chance to prove they can do more than just act.

“We’re using this as a platform to sort of showcase all of our…assets, not just being actors and actors in the game for a minute, but writers, a dancer, director producer, singer,” Golden told KTLA TV. “We’re using this to kind of showcase all that we do. None of us are jacks of one trade.”

Golden said the opportunity also allows fans to get to know the women better.

“I decided to do it is because I was scared. I feel like I needed to face my fears. A lot of people don’t know a lot about me. I do have a lot to say in terms of being a Black woman in Hollywood and who I am. I’m a mother and I thought this would be a fun way to sort of explore that,” Golden told Sister 2 Sister. “People will discover things about each of the girls.”

Golden said her “storyline is basically coming out of a very successful show and trying to figure out where do we go from here, being a woman of color, being a mother and trying to balance all of that, keeping my career going and keeping my home life in a very anchored place.”

Each of the women on the cast, which also includes Lisa Wu, Paula Jai Parker, Countess Vaughn and Elise Neal, is over 30, and Paula said that sometimes makes it harder for them to find work.

“I think the phone rings the most when you turn 30. I think 30, for an actress, is like the apex of when she’ll get that really big break, that really big show, that really big movie and then everything kind of teeters,” Paula said.

However, Countess said they’re ready to change that Hollywood cliché.
