WKYC-TV3 Cameraman Attacked While Filming Protest
CLEVELAND — A WKYC photojournalist was assaulted while covering the #Ferguson2CLE protest Sunday evening in Cleveland. It was caught by at least two cameras, including his own.
“They were bumping into me and stuff and then this guy came up out of nowhere, hit my camera, knocked my light off. We can see that from the video,” said Channel 3 photojournalist George Payamgis. “Then somebody came from behind with an Anonymous mask and smashed the camera. You can see that twice.”
In addition to Payamgis’s camera, the altercation was caught on a smartphone by a Channel 3 viewer, who asked to remain anonymous.
The viewer video shows a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, often associated with the hacker group Anonymous, assaulting Payamgis.
