How to use Cleveland Police Body Cameras!

CLEVELAND – The trainer teaching Cleveland patrol officers how to use the city’s new body cameras showed NewsChannel 5 Investigators how they work Thursday.

Billy Doss works for Taser International, the Scottsdale, Az. company the city purchased 1,500 body cameras from to help increase accountability in the department.

Doss told NewsChannel 5 Investigators he teaches officers how to turn the cameras on and off and then how to hit record and stop.

“At the beginning of the day, the officers will turn the power switch on. It gives them a little orangish-red-looking sticker so they know it’s powered on,” said Doss.

“Once it boots up, just like a computer. It will beep at them, and then from that point on, they’ll be in buffering mode so they’re continually taking in that information,” he said.

There is a large button in the middle of the camera. Doss said officers push it twice to start recording. The camera then beeps twice to let the officer know it is recording.
