EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Some residents ihere want to oust Mayor Gary Norton.

A meeting is set for 5 p.m. tonight (March 5) East Cleveland library.

City Councilman Nate Martin, who calls Norton a friend, is among those who wants to replace him.

Norton took office in 2010. He runs a city in desperate financial straits that must have its spending overseen by Ohio Auditor David Yost.

Norton has been at odds with City Council for much of his term.

Martin said, “The city has been mismanaged…Every year he overspends his budget…He got in there and got a big head….He does what he wants to do…He’s been derelict in his duty..”

Martin also claimed Norton does not live in East Cleveland as legally required, claiming he lives in Shaker Heights.

Recently Norton has been suggesting to residents that merging with Cleveland would provide better service and other benefits.

He has thus far stopped short of a full-fledged public endorsement of joining Cleveland.
