BEREA, Ohio– Victory Monday was followed by ‘Decision Wednesday’ in Berea as the Browns announced that quarterback Josh McCown will start Sunday over Johnny Manziel.  McCown was the Browns starting quarterback before he was diagnosed with a concussion during the first game of the season against the New York Jets.  He was cleared on Wednesday morning to practice and play.

“He has done everything that we have asked of him in the off-season,” said head coach Mike Pettine.  “He earned our right to be the starting quarterback and we feel he gives us the best opportunity to win on Sunday.”

This news comes after Johnny Manziel got his first career win Sunday, leading the Browns to a 28-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans.  Manziel threw two touchdown passes to Travis Benjamin in the win.

“I thought Johnny did an outstanding job with his opportunity,” Pettine said.  “He knows there are some things that he needs to clean up.  I’m very proud of him personally and professionally with the progress that he has made.”

The decision to name McCown the starter for Sunday was a group decision.  Mike Pettine sat down with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo and quarterback coach Kevin O’Connell to get their opinion. All three agreed that McCown gives the Browns the best chance to win.
