CLEVELAND– It’s no secret Cleveland is a foodie town. So when more than 50,000 visitors come to our city for the Republican National Convention, these out-of-towners need to experience the taste of Cleveland.

Here are a few iconic Cleveland foods:

Slyman’s corned beef: Slyman’s, located on St. Clair Avenue, is a stop for politicians and celebrities. But what draws a lunchtime crowd is the corned beef. It’s Cleveland in the form of a sandwich. The Slyman’s brand now has Slyman’s Tavern in Independence and is launching a food truck.

Sokolowski’s pierogi: This Tremont spot is Cleveland’s oldest family-owned restaurant and the 2014 recipient of the James Beard Award for American classics. The pierogi is the star of the Polish and Eastern European menu.

Hot Sauce Williams Polish boy: This east-side joint is Cleveland’s BBQ capitol. Regulars love the fried chicken and ribs, but the signature meal is the Polish boy. That’s a kielbasa sandwich topped with BBQ pork, fries, coleslaw and hot sauce.
