AKRON, OH (WOIO) –
The University of Akron President Scott Scarborough has resigned.
The University of Akron’s Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to accept Scarborough’s resignation, effective May 31, 2016.
An interim president will be named in the near future.
Scarborough was named the university’s 16th president in 2014. Scarborough’s tenure was plagued by budget cuts and a rebranding effort that never quite caught on.
Letter from President Scarborough to Faculty, Staff and Students
The University’s Board of Trustees and I have mutually agreed that, effective May 31st, I will step down as President of The University of Akron. It is our belief that new leadership is needed for the University to move forward and achieve sustained success in the future.
