Jaelyn Young

Remember Jaelyn Young?

She was the Mississippi State University student who, along with reported fiancé, Muhammad Dakhalla, admitted to attempting to join ISIS last year. According to Yahoo!, her efforts have garnered her 12 years in prison. She was sentenced on Thursday.

In March she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support/resources to terrorists. She was facing up to 20 years and fines of up to $250,000, and according to Alabama.com, her parents asked for the judge to be lenient as Young had stated that she was ashamed of her actions. Her lawyer asked for the same leniency, citing “mental instability.” The former honors student sobbed in court as she heard her sentence, which compared to 20, is…okay.
