CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade linebacker Barkevious Mingo to the New England Patriots, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

WKYC’s Jim Donovan reports the Browns have received a fifth-round pick in return.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Mingo registered just 99 total tackles and seven sacks over three years with the Browns.

Over his 46 games with the Browns, including just 16 starts, Mingo made 68 solo tackles and 31 assists, and had one interception, which he returned for seven yards in an overtime loss to the Denver Broncos last October. Additionally, Mingo recovered one fumble during his second NFL season.

Prior to the start of the offseason training program, the Browns declined the fifth-year option on Mingo’s rookie contract, which will make him an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Considered undersized to be a defensive lineman, and yet, too slow to be an outside linebacker, the 6-foot-4 Mingo spent the offseason working to improve his physical conditioning so that he could have a positive impact for this season.

“Honestly, this whole offseason, my main focus was getting bigger, bigger, faster, stronger, and just coming into the building, coming into the workouts bigger, faster, stronger, so I achieved my goals and am excited to get to working with the guys that we brought back and the guys we brought in,” Mingo said earlier this year.”
