Pastor Joel Osteen, under fire for waiting too long to open his doors to Hurricane Harvey evacuees, told “Good Morning America” today that his Lakewood megachurch in Houston “took people in from the very beginning,” and that the facility’s parking garage was indeed flooded, even if the streets leading to the facility were clear.
“I think somebody created that narrative that somehow we were high and dry and none of that is true,” he told “GMA’s” George Stephanopolous. “This building — it was a safety issue and we took people in from the very beginning.”
Well count T.I. among those who have scorched Osteen on social media for the apparent delay in opening his church doors.
The Atlanta rapper took to Instagram with the following missive:
“This is why people (like me) don’t trust the mega churches. How can someone (especially a so called man of God) make 70+Ms a yr TAX FREE from citizens of a city that’s now in distress & in dyer need of food water & shelter NOT OPEN THE DOORS OF GODs HOUSE (supposedly) to help those in need? @joelosteen YOU SIR ARE A FRAUD!!!! T.I. also posted a video of Tupac talking about the need for megachurch pastors to do more for their struggling congregants.
