Cleveland police have arrested a third suspect accused of being connected with last Friday’s shooting on Buckeye Road that left a 12-year-old boy dead.
Police Chief Calvin Williams says a 21-year-old woman is currently in custody. While Williams does not believe she is the one who pulled the trigger, he does claim she was involved, although just how much has not been made clear.
“Anyone involved in a violent crime here in the city of Cleveland is going to be subject to the same arrest and the same outcome as the person who actually participated in that,” Williams said at a press conference.
While both Williams and Mayor Frank Jackson did not comment on how the woman was specifically involved, they do expect her to be formally charged either Wednesday or Thursday, at which time her identity will also be released.
Authorities say the shooting took place around 7:30 p.m. Friday when one group of teens began firing guns at another group on a sidewalk near Buckeye and E 116th. 12-year-old Abdel Latif Bashiti was shot and died at the scene after he and his father went outside to investigate. Five others were injured, including three still in critical condition.
