ASHLAND, OH (WOIO) –
Opening statements are expected to begin Monday in the trial for Shawn Grate. He’s accused of murdering two women in Ashland County, but confessed to killing several more.
Grate, 41, was arrested in 2016 after a woman called police to report that she was abducted and raped.
When police arrived, they discovered bodies of two other women. Elizabeth Griffith, 29, and Stacey Stanley, 43, were both strangled to death.
Judge Ron Forsthoefel handed down a 23-count indictment to Grate, detailing the charges including kidnapping, rape, murder, robbery, burglary, and abuse of a corpse.
Grate also admitted to Cleveland 19 News that he is responsible for three additional murders, but investigators have not been able to charge him with those deaths at this time.
