CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – The Cleveland Browns have hired a new coach after the team released Hue Jackson in the middle of the 2018 season.

The Browns will name Freddie Kitchens as the new head coach of the team, according to Cleveland 19 News Sports Director Tony Zarrella.

Kitchens started the season as the running backs coach, but was then promoted to offensive coordinator when Jackson was let go. He will now reportedly be promoted to coach the team in the span of 10 weeks.

According to a report from Pat McManamon with ESPN, Gregg Williams, who served as interim head coach of Jackson’s firing, will not return to the team.

With Kitchens as offensive coordinator and Williams as interim head coach, the Browns finished the season 5-3; a turnaround from 0-16 in 2017.

Since Week 9, the Browns offense under Kitchens led the NFL in yards per play and tied the league lead for yards per pass attempt.
