Durand Bernarr pulled up to WZAK and reminded everyone why Cleveland stays winning. The Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and performer chopped it up about life, growth, and what success really means when you’re rooted in the 216.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Bernarr hasn’t just made a name for himself—he’s carved out a whole lane. With three albums deep and a style that fuses funk, soul, and fearless individuality, Bernarr says hearing “Grammy-nominated” before his name still hits different.

When asked how it feels to hear “Grammy-nominated” before his name, Bernarr said,

“You know, it makes me feel very— you know—when people are always asking what does success look like to them… my parents being my biggest cheerleaders and supporters are able to receive the world receiving me, and that is probably one of the biggest accomplishments ever thus far.”

Known for his high-energy performances and killer vocals, Bernarr credits much of his confidence and edge to his upbringing in Cleveland. “This city gave me grit, gave me flavor, gave me range,” he said.

Bernarr also touched on staying grounded despite rising fame. “I can go out into the world, do what I do—but Cleveland is always home base,” he said. “That’s never changing.”

He might be rocking stages worldwide now, but Bernarr’s loyalty to his roots makes every win feel like a win for the city, too.
