Usher And Mom Open Up On VH1′s Behind The Music

Usher’s episode of VH1’s Behind the Music aired last night, and call me crazy, but it doesn’t appear as if his mother, Jonetta Patton, is totally over the R&B superstar’s marriage to Tameka Foster, even though the two are now divorced. Back in 2007, and after working as his manager since he was 13-years-old, Patton was fired by Usher because of her staunch disapproval of his relationship with Foster. The “OMG” singer went on to marry Foster, who once worked as his stylist, and the union resulted in the birth of their two sons, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond.

During last night’s show, Usher said of the falling out between he and his mother over his relationship with Foster: “I was like, ‘This is my life, this is my choice.’ She [Patton] just couldn’t allow me to have that moment.”

But when asked for her side of the story, Patton simply replied: “That’s something I really don’t wanna talk about.”

Her refusal to talk about the situation brings to mind the old adage about silence speaking volumes.

Usher’s ex-girlfriend, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, also appeared on the show, and the duo spoke on what led to the demise of their two-year relationship back in 2003. According to Usher, he wanted marriage and a family with the TLC singer but, at the time, she wasn’t ready for that level of commitment:

“What I expected and wanted from her wasn’t what she could give me at the time. I actually talked about marriage and it didn’t work.”

Lending credence to his perspective on why things didn’t work out between them, Chilli told VH1: What Chilli Wants [the VH1 reality show that chronicles her quest to find love] would be titled What Chilli Has. This would be a different type of behind the music.”

Do I smell a reunion in the works? Maybe, but they’d have to get past the hell that Tameka would put them through first—I heard ol’ girl isn’t against slashing a tire or two.
