AKRON, OH (WOIO) - After years as the head football coach at Youngstown State University and The Ohio State University, Jim Tressel was named VP of Strategic Engagement at the University of Akron. The official announcement was made during a 10AM news conference on Wednesday morning. "The first thing I'm going to do is listen, and learn and become a part of the team," Tressel said. "I'm not the offensive coordinator or the defensive coordinator, I'm just on the team."

The Cleveland Browns today named Brad Childress offensive coordinator, the team announced. Childress brings 33 years of coaching experience on both the collegiate and professional levels to the Browns, including 13 in the NFL. Most recently, he spent five seasons (2006-10) as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. As head coach of the Vikings, Childress guided Minnesota to a regular season record of 39-35 (.527), as the team won consecutive division titles (2008-09) for the first time in 28 years (1977-78). In 2009, the team posted a 12-4 record, matching the second-best win total in franchise history, while leading the NFL with a club-high 10 Pro Bowlers.

CLEVELAND - The response to Horseshoe Casino Cleveland's call for applications to fill 750 new positions has been nothing short of amazing, casino executives said Tuesday. In the first 24 hours, they've received roughly 8,500 applications. "It's been great, it's been an overwhelming response," said Horseshoe General Manager Marcus Glover. "Very similar to what we saw when we posted our positions for the dealer training academy back in September."
