Many stars of yesteryear enjoy reliving their glory days on TV One’s “Unsung,” but Stephanie Mills isn’t one of them.

The ’80s diva, who’s known for hits like “Something in The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Home,” has repeatedly refused requests to be featured on the series.

“I don’t like that show,” she told The Huffington Post. “They have approached me quite a few times, but I [won’t] do that show,” she said.

The title suggests that the show highlights artists who were unappreciated by the industry and fans; although, it has featured several well-known, award-winning legends.

“I don’t feel unsung,” she said. “I feel like I’ve had a wonderful career. I’ve done wonderful things and met so many wonderful different people. So, I don’t feel unsung at all,” she said.

However, the show’s producer told AOL Black Voices last year that the series is about creating an archive that traces artists’ lives.

“The show has managed to take a place of pride and honor in the community,” said executive producer Mark Rowland. “There is a real sense of responsibility to keep it to that standard for us to exceed it.”

While her reluctance to be categorized with those who never received the shine they deserved is understandable, Stephanie noted another reason.

“I’ve always been very private and at 55, I don’t want to open up my life to that,” said Stephanie, who is following the series, even if she isn’t willing to participate. “They’ve done Angela Winbush and they even wanted me to say something about her on that show, and I love Angela. We’re sisters, but I had to tell her, ‘I don’t want to do that.’”

While Stephanie’s fans would likely tune in for an “Unsung” episode about her life, she feels strongly that it’s not for her and goes against “everything that I believe in.”
