However, Zvenyika apparently couldn’t face any further humiliation and possible excommunication from the church, so he decided to end his own life by drinking poison, according to reports.
42 year old Chezhira Mukobvu, who had been married to Rosemary Nyamukachi for 17 years, took Zvenyika to court earlier this year because he believed that his wife had been impregnated while working for the allegedly adulterous pastor. The 35-year-old woman had reportedly been employed as a housemaid in the home of Zvenyika for about 5 years, during which time she had allegedly been forced to terminate 3 pregnancies fathered by the reverend before finally giving birth to a son.
Family members claimed that the reverend had died on his way to the hospital after he swallowed poison at his home on Friday.
Mukobvu testified in court that the adulterous relationship between his wife and Zvenyika destroyed their marriage and his wife was willing to testify in court as to the accuracy of his statements. He claimed the reverend should compensate him for the damage caused to his marriage and the intimate relations his wife had refused him because of her affair with the reverend.
