Rihanna opened the 2010 American Music Awards with confidence Sunday night, performing an a cappella version of the hit song “Love the Way You Lie.” The Barbadian R&B recording artist then added some island flavor to the show, changing her outfit to a more sexy summer appropriate look and performing two tracks off her latest album, “Loud.”

With her curly red hair now in curls, Rihanna sang “What’s My Name?” before moving into “Only Girl (In the World).” With a tribal feel (complete with back-up dancers, drums, and fire), Rihanna shook, bounced, and gyrated on stage to the infectious beat like a stripper sure to get some attention for the album. Rihanna would return to the stage later in the show, this time to claim her award. Wearing a long flowing green gown, Rihanna accepted an American Music Award for Favorite Female Artist in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues Music category. Rihanna beat out Alicia Keys and Sade.
