CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – –

A 19-year-old remains in fair condition at MetroHealth Medical Center after being shot in the chest by Cleveland Police.

The officer-involved shooting happened around 9:30PM Wednesday at 12021 Imperial Avenue.

Police responded to the infamous street for a large fight involving weapons.

When officers arrived, they saw a big crowd. The suspect, identified as Ronnie Mitchell, ran from the crowd with his hand in his waistband. Officers chased him and ordered him to stop. Mitchell turned and pointed a .45 caliber handgun, which was cocked, at the officers.

Officer Dave Grasha then fired his weapon, and struck Mitchell once in the chest. No police officers were injured.

Imperial Avenue is best known for serial killer Anthony Sowell.

Sowell was recently sent to death row for the mass murder of eleven Northeast Ohio women. Their bodies were discovered on his Imperial Avenue property.

So far this year, Cleveland Police have been involved in a series of shootings. City Council Public Safety Chairman Kevin Conwell says he is planning a hearing on it.

Just how often are Cleveland Police firing their weapons?
