Overnight tonight, Thursday, November 17, crews will be removing the vinyl channelizers – the barriers that prevent I-90 east traffic from accessing the E 22nd Street or Carnegie exits. Barrels will be placed along the edge line to continue preventing that access. These exits will again be accessible from I-90 by 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 20 following this weekend’s traffic shift. Please be patient and wait for full access on Sunday, do not attempt to drive through the barrels – your fellow motorists will thank you!
Motorists bound for downtown events on Friday night and Saturday should use I-490 and I-77 to reach their destinations. This weekend, the following closures will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday night, November 18 through 11 a.m. Sunday morning, November 20:
- I-90 east and west will be closed between I-490 and I-77. Eastbound motorists may detour via I-490 east to I-77 north. Westbound motorists may detour via I-77 south to I-490 west.
- The W 14th Street ramp to I-90 east will be closed. Detour via Abbey Avenue to W 20th to Lorain-Carnegie to E 22nd to Prospect to I-90 east – or, use W 7th Street to access I-490 east to I-77 north to I-90 east.
- The E 9th Street ramp to I-90 west will be closed. Detour via I-77 south to I-490 west to I-90.
- The Ontario ramp to I-90 west will be closed. Detour via I-77 south to I-490 west to I-90.
Also this weekend, On Saturday, November 19, E 14th Street will be closed under I-90 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour via E 9th or Ontario. E 9th Street will also have a lane restriction on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Next week, Monday through Friday (excluding Thanksgiving Day), November 21-25, E 9th Street will have a lane restriction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The construction of this bridge is vital to the success of moving people in and out of downtown Cleveland in the future. It will enhance capacity, bolster our economy and ensure the safety of motorists.
