Romona Robinson is leaving WKYC Channel 3 after 15 years as one of the Cleveland station’s primary news anchors. Her last day on the air at Channel 3 will be Friday, Dec. 16.

Both Robinson and Channel 3’s general manager, Brooke Spectorsky, confirmed the decision, which has been the subject of rumors in the Cleveland TV market for several months. It brings an abrupt end to six months of negotiations with the Gannett-owned station over a contract that’s up at the end of the year. Reached after the 6 p.m. newscast, Robinson declined further comment.

“We just weren’t able to come to terms on a new contract,” Spectorsky said. “Coming off a long-term contract, we certainly wanted to make this work. Obviously, Romona has been a significant part of the station for 15 years. She’s done a lot for us, but our world and our business have changed over the last eight years, so there are very mixed feelings about this.”

Robinson’s departure makes her the latest high-profile black female television anchor to leave the Cleveland market in the past several months
