‘Twas the season for extra work.

If you’re looking for temp work, the season is here. Though retail jobs are on the list, there are other positions to check out that may be a good fit.

The Monster.com job search website suggests working as a holiday character or entertainers. One would need some acting skills and applicants better have a strong like of children or forget it.

Another job possibility is store security. Be an undercover spy who walks up and down the aisles making sure someone isn’t getting the latest, hottest item through a five-finger discount.

Potential employees who love people may also want to try being a greeter, a suggestion by the website Jobdiagnosis.com . These people welcome customers who come in and offer a bit of help such as telling them where to find specific items.

There are also visual associates who create window and in-store displays. A knowledge of what’s hot in fashion is needed in this position.

Are you handy with a camera? Try something like mall photographer, suggests JobDiagnosis. This could be snapping photos for holiday events or grabbing portraits of families and children. Maybe even some with kids and Santa himself.

Once people buy their gifts, they have to get those big boxes and packages to their homes or destinations. That, coupled with the number of gifts bought online, makes delivery personnel a hot job. SecondAct.com said that FedEx is expected to hire 20,000 temporary workers. It will also be a booming month for United Parcel Service as well.

The website WarehouseJobs.com is another potential place to search as SecondAct reports 15 percent of industries hiring for the holidays will add positions in shipping.

All that holiday season shopping requires some serious caffeination. More baristas may be needed at coffee shops to pick up the extra business.

Specialty food workers, another suggestion by JobDiagnosis.com, can be anything from bakers and meat cutters to cheese specialists. It could mean preparing the food as well as dealing with aspects such as management and ordering.

Those handy with animals may want to try pet sitting. SecondAct.com states this could be in demand as families head elsewhere for the holidays but leave Fido and other pets behind.
