GEAUGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) –

Chardon shooting suspect TJ Lane pled not guilty in court Friday afternoon.  This was his first appearance in adult court.

The teen is facing charges for fatally shooting three of his classmates and wounding three others inside Chardon High School.

Lane admitted to the shooting, and said he shot the victims in the head because he didn’t want them to suffer. He said he had no idea how many people he shot. He also admitted to wearing a t-shirt to school that day that said “killer.”

The deadly shootings occurred just before the start of classes on February 27 in the area of the High School’s cafeteria.

Lane said he got the gun from his uncle’s house the night before the rampage.

17-year-old Russell King, Jr., 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor and 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin were killed. 17-year-old Nick Walczak remains paralyzed from the waist down.

18-year-old Joy Rickers and a 6th, unidentified victim were treated and released from the hospital.

If convicted, Lane could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Lane’s bond was set at $1 million, despite the prosecutions request it be set at $2.5 million.

Lane’s defense team mentioned that in the future, Lane may plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
