PARMA, Ohio – Fire investigators have ruled the cause of the blaze at the landmark Parma Theater as arson.

The theater, which opened in 1936 on Ridge Road, caught on fire around 5 p.m. Friday. Within the hour, firefighters had the blaze out and contained it to the lobby.

No injuries were reported.

The Parma Theater closed on Sept. 9 and its sign out front reads “Closed. Thanks for your patronage.” The theater stopped showing movies during the week because of poor attendance at the beginning of the year, but there was a recent push to save it.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing. A damage estimate is still unknown.
